Is IT the driver or order-taker?

Is IT the driver or order-taker?

I came across this interesting article, the link of which is at the end of this article, that looks back through the IT evolution over the last decade about how that once perceived to be true & infallible became overtly irrelevant today!

What were the best practices a decade ago are roadblocks now! Here are some major ones.

A decade ago it was IT that ran the show & business did as IT instructed, but today it is Business that runs the show & IT must deliver what business asks for.

Back then IT developed things ground-up that business consumed, while today Business configures end-to-end while IT’s main responsibility is to ensure fluidity of data.

Back then applications were released only when they were complete, today applications are released multiple times till they are considered complete.

A single IT partner was preferred back then, while multiple IT partners are preferred today. We had a time when no fixes were encouraged if things were not broken, today things are deliberately broken to challenge & fix the status quo.

Back then software vendors were partnered with, today cloud vendors are partnered with.

So, is IT the driver or order-taker?

Well, neither of those but a true partner to the business to serve its true value.
